Keep MAF planes flying during times of crisis like the Ebola outbreak in the DRC
Emergency Flights.
For thousands of families and individuals living in isolated communities around the world, the only way to receive urgent medical care or an emergency evacuation is through an MAF flight.
Just a few short weeks ago as I was helping to pack our aircraft floor to ceiling with emergency medical supplies, I couldn’t help but think how every box represented hope for someone in need.
An Ebola outbreak had been declared here in the Democratic Republic of the Congo where I serve with MAF as a pilot. And after days of phone calls, paperwork, and coordination, we were finally cleared to fly.
Since then we’ve made several flights into the affected zones—transporting medical personnel and critical supplies that will stock field hospitals and support the efforts to contain and eradicate this deadly disease.
My involvement with this crisis is the reason I’ve been asked to write to you today, but the truth is, the real challenge isn’t about Ebola – it’s about fuel.
Because whether we’re responding to an outbreak of Ebola here in the DR Congo, providing ongoing relief supplies to parts of Bougainville ravaged by Cyclone Maila, or preparing to support a massive humanitarian crisis brewing in South Sudan, nothing happens without fuel.
And today, as fuel prices skyrocket, the real crisis may be having to choose which needs we can meet.
Because while aviation fuel prices have recently doubled on average making every flight more expensive to operate, the need for our services continues to grow.
More communities are facing crises. More organizations are asking for support. More needs are being presented to bring help, hope, and healing to cut-off communities in desperate need of it.
Rising fuel prices and rising needs are creating a perfect storm of humanitarian disaster.
Can we count on you to rise to meet these challenges?
Your gift today will help keep MAF aircraft in the air and ready to respond whenever and wherever the need arises. It will help provide the fuel that allows us to deliver emergency supplies, transport aid workers, reach cut-off communities, and serve people facing some of life’s most difficult circumstances.
I have the privilege of seeing firsthand what happens when an MAF aircraft delivers the help that people have been waiting for. I’ve watched relief supplies unloaded, medical teams welcomed, and lives changed because someone like you cared enough to make that flight possible.
Thank you for being a part of that story.
If you’ve donated recently to help provide fuel, thank you! But if you haven’t had a chance to respond yet, please know that your gift is urgently needed. To make your gift, call toll-free 1-877-351-9344 or use the form on this page.
Your prayers, encouragement, and generosity enable us to continue serving where the need is greatest.
With gratitude,
Dominic Villeneuve
MAF Pilot in the DR Congo
P.S. As fuel prices continue to rise, and as requests for emergency flights continue to grow, the need has not gone away. Whether this would be your first gift or another generous response, please consider helping to provide the fuel needed for the next life-changing flight.
